I first spoke to Hanifa in July 2016. She called me after someone gave her my business card at her church. When we met in person, we became instant friends. We are both single mothers. Even though are stories are very different, we share a lot of the same feelings of isolation, discrimination and gratitude for being alive. I was drawn to Hanifa and very inspired by her story. I could not imagine leaving my family to travel to a new country.
Hanifa is an amazing example of moving forward in spite of the circumstances. Read more about Hanifa’s story in the Pittsburgh Magazine.
